Herbal Tea & Pregnancy

In the attempt to avoid caffeine in pregnancy, many women drink herbal tea. While avoidance of caffeine, especially in large amounts, is advisable during pregnancy, it is often difficult to find good information about herbal tea and pregnancy. One rule is to discuss any questionable substances with your healthcare provider before you consume them. While some herbs can be helpful during pregnancy, they are not regulated by the FDA and little true research has been done on many products. Here is a list of some of the know facts concerning herbal tea and pregnancy.
Since herbal teas are caffeine free, they are an excellent way to enjoy a flavored beverage. Increase consumption of liquids is important in pregnancy as the mother’s blood volume must increase to accommodate the increased demand on her circulatory system. However, it is important for pregnant women to avoid substances that cause blood vessel to constrict. This will decrease blood flow to the fetus and is one of the reasons for avoiding caffeine.

Consult your doctor if you are unsure of any herbal tea.

Another group of herbal teas to avoid in pregnancy are those containing fat soluble vitamins, particularly vitamin A. Because these vitamins remain in the body for extended periods of time and cross the placenta to the baby, they can be harmful. For this reason herbal teas containing dandelions, yellow dock, alfalfa, and nettles, also known as stinging nettles, should be avoided in pregnancy.

Herbal teas which are generally safe in pregnancy are those made from such ingredients are lemon, lime, or orange rinds, mint leaves or cinnamon added to decaffeinate non-herbal tea. Since it is impossible to remove all the caffeine, these should be consumed in limited portions. Red raspberry leaf tea is often recommended in pregnancy and is generally felt to be safe as is peppermint tea which is frequently used to decrease nausea early in pregnancy.

There are teas which are marketed specifically for pregnant and nursing mothers. While these maybe safe and beneficial, it is important to look at the ingredients before buying them. It is also important to remember that consuming anything in large quantities can be harmful. While certain herbal tea and pregnancy are compatible, if there is any cause for concern, what until your health care provider can be consulted.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

  8. Thanks for a good read. I will be returning.

  9. Hi. I wanted to advise you that some parts of your site are tricky to scan for me, as I’m color blind. I am a sufferrer of tritanopia, however there are more sorts of color blindness that may also get problems. I can understand most of the web page OK, and those elements I have difficulties with I am able to read by using a adapted browser. In any case, it’d be nice if you would remember we color-blind people while doing your next website revamp. Many Thanks.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

  11. Decent article!! We all believe Having a baby is the most beautiful phase not necessarily only for the mother to be and the woman’s companion, but likewise for the entire gamut of friends, family members and well wishers surrounding them. A women’s pregnancy is the time when the mom to be and her partner are stuffed with restless feelings about the known, less known and some unknown concerns associated to pregnancy and pregnancy complications.
